With the goal of maintaining a high level of battle between the three Empires of PlanetSide, the two North American servers, Markov and Emerald, will be merged into one server, Gemini, on May 20, 2008.

Starting today, as a part of a select group of past PlanetSide players, you will be able to log in for free until May 21, 2008.

• An issue with the Data Corruption certification has been fixed; players with Data Corruption will now be able to infect Spitfires, Motion Sensors, Wall Turrets, and Aegis Shield Generators.
• There is now a chance that a virus will wear off much earlier than usual for infected Spitfires, Motion Sensors, Wall Turrets, and Aegis Shield Generators.
• The radar icon for the Shield Disruptor has been reduced in size, especially when radar is set to short range.
• All players will be given an optional certification reset.

As announced in a press release today, effective April 1, 2008 Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) will report to Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI). The new structure is designed to mutually benefit both companies by further accelerating the PlayStation business through SOE's strong online gaming expertise.

SOE is currently part of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Under the new structure, SOE will continue to develop its games for the PC and the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®) computer entertainment system.

The day to day workings of SOE will not change and no employees will be let go. We are thrilled and excited by this change in structure! As Smed was quoted in the press release, "This move is going to broaden our capabilities and expand the development of our products into new and exciting directions."

Two new certifications have been introduced to continue the hacking profession. An advanced hacker must choose whether he wants to further increase his hacking potential with the REK or move to the dark side of hacking and install electronic viruses with the new T-REK. An internship at SOE is a prearranged learning experience designed to place students on a project that is relevant to their academic and professional goals. What is a Fan Faire?
