The Infiltrator's Mission

The role of the Infiltration Soldier is a solitary and fiercely independent one. Though they work in squads, their work must be carried out solo with minimal backup or weaponry. Perhaps this is why they can be so talkative during the instances when they are with others. My Vanu Sovereignty squad flew to its destination. Our newest addition, a Stealth Engineer, told us of one of her first missions as an Infiltrator.

She had been operating alone for her first few weeks of enlistment. She was certified in the Infiltration Suit, the Wraith All-Terrain Stealth Quad and Basic Engineering. Until this time, she focused her efforts on repairing her comrades' armor between firefights. For the rare instances when she had to engage in combat, she kept a Beamer ready with an extra clip of ammo and installed the Melee Boost implant when it became available to her.

As she stood ready at her base, alerts started coming in almost simultaneously, indicating that the Terran Republic had begun hacking the towers surrounding her base. After a short time, reports from other Vanu soldiers began coming in - a Terran Republic convoy of ground vehicles was making its way to the base.

The Vanu Sovereignty soldiers began covering the entrances and stationing themselves in the exterior bunkers to hold off the invasion. The Infiltrator looked to the sky and saw that the arrival of the vehicles on land had distracted the VS soldiers from the approaching Galaxy. Six Terrans hot-dropped out of the Galaxy, landing safely on the roof of the complex with the aid of their inertial dampeners. From there, they would have easy access to the lower levels of the base while the Vanu focused on the outdoor assault.

A Vanu Sovereignty Commander reported a Terran Republic soldier outside of the control console room shortly before being drilled by his quarry's Mini Chaingun. The Infiltrator took the initiative and reported that she would stop the hack. Sneaking up behind the hacker, she drew her Forceblade and activated her Melee Boost implant. Before taking her second swing, the base hazard lights lit up. The console's core opened up, indicating that the soldier had finished his job. A second thrust of her blade killed him, but her job was not over. She now had to re-secure Vanu control over the control console.

She equipped her Remote Electronics Kit and went to work. She guessed that the Terran soldier was an advanced certified hacker, because she was taking much longer to hack the console than he did. After finishing the hack, she turned to see another pair of Terrans rush through the door. She stood quietly and faded back into perfect invisibility, hoping they would pass. Vanu troops radioed and told her they had cleared the courtyard of invaders and were arriving to deal with those that had already penetrated the base.

The small squad of four VS soldiers moved through the hallways to the console room. The infiltrator radioed, informing them that one of the Terrans had already started to hack the console again. Just then, she saw on her HUD that one of them had activated their Darklight Emitter implant. In a moment, he would locate her and open fire. She drew her Beamer and began firing pointblank at the hacker. He quickly fell, but she now had to escape the hail of bullets being sprayed all around her. She slipped out the opposite door and ran through the corridor, only to see a Terran MAX soldier anchored down and facing the opposite direction. Beyond him, she could see her VS squadmates crouched behind the crates, firing rockets and Armor-Piercing rounds at the MAX as they tried to avoid his massive shells. The infiltrator decided that she was better off attempting to slip past the console room again, instead of getting caught in the massive firefight outside the corridor.

As she re-entered the control console room, she saw the surviving Terran soldier back out of the room and then lob plasma grenades into it. The Infiltrator looked for cover, but this room offered none. The green cloud of plasma enveloped her and flashes of searing pain ripped through her body until she finally fell.

She regained consciousness, hearing the pulsating hum of the medical applicator reviving her. She asked if the base was under attack and was informed that the Terran forces had been driven back. Her vigilant duty at the control console had allowed her squadmates the time to locate and destroy the Terran AMS and regain control of the surrounding towers. The Terran influence had been forced back to a few scattered bases near their Sanctuary warpgate. The Vanu's continued sovereignty was secure this day.
